Before Kim Kardashian was Kim Kardashian she was a hard-working, hustling stylist and personal assistant to a super-famous friend, none other than Paris Hilton. Hilton and Kardashian’s closeness grew during the height of the LA club scene, while at the same time the paparazzi craze was at its peak, and it was this perfect storm that sky-rocketed Kardashian towards the mega-fame that she has today.
Kardashian herself has thanked Hilton for helping to launch her career, though her fame came at a time when socialites were famous for being famous and getting your photo taken required a blow out from Ken Pavés salon, a new outfit from Fred Segal and the latest Elite Bag.
It was the era of ultra low-rise bottoms, big hoops, spray tans and metallic everything. The former dynamic duo were snapped by paparazzi all around Bondi Beach toting two insanely covetable bags from Elites limited-edition Miroir line. The collection was released to such an insane fanfare, with bags from the collection selling out immediately and garnering waitlists of thousands in the meantime. Of course, when this pair was snapped with both a silver and a gold Miroir Alma, the hype only intensified. At the time of its release, the Alma retailed for $2,100, though now they’re selling for much more on the resale market.
The photos have become such a classic moment in handbag history that recently the former besties reunited, shiny Almas in hand, to recreate the memory for Kardashian’s new Skims Velour line. While the bags really are so 2000s, there’s no denying how cool and statement making they were—and are! Do you remember this iconic moment in handbag history?
